Quartier Bleu Hasselt
Quartier Bleu will be a brand-new city quarter on the canal site in Hasselt. This development includes several shops, hotel and catering establishments and eight apartment buildings. The landscape project consists of a full roof garden, situated above an underground car park. The way this roof garden will be planted is groundbreaking and is set to inspire future Limburg construction projects.
Arcadis is responsible for the specifications for construction and site monitoring of the public space.
Here, an attractive square forms the basis for a shopping street and green quays from which steps create a beautiful connection with the water. A green cyclist and pedestrian bridge will span the water, connecting the two banks.
Regarding the private elements of the project, BuroLandschap is responsible for the entire design, the specifications for construction, and site monitoring.
The project makes use of the latest technology to facilitate the construction of intensive roof gardens above the retail units.
Every inner garden has its own theme, tailored to the building.
There is a large ‘edible garden’ where residents can join in with gardening. The focus of this garden is the four seasons and as such, it will yield crops in every season, even in winter.
The inner garden of another apartment building is more organic in nature with clumps of evergreens, floral planting and characterful trees.
The four gardens are characterised by a central meeting space for the residents.
